Program Overview
PACE MD’s MED-Spanish Fourth-Year Medical Student (MS4) Elective Rotation program is designed to internationalize your medical education theoretically, practically and culturally. Our total-immersion medical Spanish program combines individualized language instruction, supervised clinical experiences and exposure to the realities of global health. Develop the vital skills and cultural literacy necessary for a successful career as a physician in an increasingly interdependent healthcare field.
Participant profile: Fourth-Year Medical Students (MS4)
Dates: Year-round*
Arrival date: Fridays or Saturdays (desirable)
Program duration: 4 weeks
Application deadline: One month prior to Arrival Date
Program cost: $2,750 (one-on-one instruction add $200 USD fee)
*Programs are not available between Dec. 20 and Jan. 3
SPANISH INSTRUCTION
Group size: individualized instruction with one to three students per instructor. One-on-one instruction is available for an additional $200 USD fee.
Hours: 2 hours/day
Levels: Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced (one-on-one instruction add $200 USD fee)
CLINICAL EXPERIENCE
Clinical experiences* are meant to provide participants with greater knowledge of the Mexican health care system and opportunities to practice Spanish in a clinical setting.
*IMPORTANT NOTICE: Placements are contingent upon Availability, the participant’s Spanish-speaking level, Academic degree, Professional experience and Program duration. All deployments are subject to the discretion of MED-Spanish and its medical director. Practitioners licensed in the US are reminded that they are not legally permitted to practice medicine in Mexico.
Hours: 3 to 5 hours/day.
Available placements: Ambulatory Care, Mobile Health Unit, Out-Patient Clinic.
Elective Credit
Participants seeking elective credit from their medical/profession school for the MED-Spanish program are required to obtain pre-approval from their program director, dean of students or corresponding authority prior to the program. All necessary paperwork and/or requirements must be shared with MED-Spanish in a timely manner to assure accommodations can be made. PACE MD’s MED-Spanish is NOT RESPONSIBLE if participants are denied elective credit for the program.
